An Oil and Gas Industry Safety Training Initiative

All new and existing personnel entering offshore oil and gas sites are required to obtain a Common Safety Training Program (CSTP) Card.

CSTP - APPEA

The CSTP is an industry initiative, administered by APPEA (Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association)

Mandatory from January 2013, the CSTP introduces a suite of defined safety behaviours and core skills that boost the safety awareness of all new offshore oil and gas personnel. This program differs from traditional safety training as it combines the development of safety skills with a practical behavior-based program, delivered in a simulated offshore workplace.

Obtaining a CSTP Card requires three steps:

  1. Successful completion of offsite CSTP training where participants must demonstrate an array of industry-defined safety behaviours and a competent understanding of the core safety units, or;
    completing a recognition of prior learning process (suitable only for experienced oil and gas workers)
  2. On-the-job demonstration of safety behaviours and observation by supervisors in the workplace.
  3. CSTP Card issued by the industry’s independent reviewer.

Your safety. Your Career. ERGT's response to the New Oil and Gas Industry Safety Training Initiative

ERGT offers a three-day, hands on practical training program conducted at the Oil & Gas Safety Training Centre in Jandakot, WA. The CSTP can be combined with the BOSIET or TBOSIET to provide a more cost-effective, intensive and rewarding learning experience that saves time attaining the minimum requirements to work offshore.

The CSTP for Experienced Workers (CSTP RPL) is a one day practical course that allows experienced workers to obtain their CSTP Card by demonstrating their experience and understanding of industry-specified safety behaviours through workplace scenarios and knowledge based assessments, followed by on-the-job observation in the workplace.

ERGT also offers a one-day course for supervisors about observing CSTP outcomes.
