A New Oil and Gas Industry Safety Training Initiative
All new personnel entering offshore oil and gas sites are required to participate in the Common Safety Training Program (CSTP) and to obtain their CSTP Card.
The CSTP model was developed by APPEA (Australian Petroleum Production and Exploration Association) and is an initiative of the oil & gas industry’s CEO Safety Leadership Forum.
The CSTP prepares all new entrants by introducing them to the safety behaviors expected by the offshore oil & gas industry. This program differs from traditional safety training as it combines the development of safety skills with a practical behavior-based program, delivered in a simulated offshore workplace.
Obtaining a CSTP Card requires three steps:
- Successful completion of the CSTP training.
- On-the-job demonstration of safety behaviors and observation by supervisors in the workplace.
- Official CSTP Card issued by the industry’s independent reviewer.
Your safety. Your Career. ERGT's response to the New Oil and Gas Industry Safety Training Initiative
The general CSTP course offered by ERGT, is a three-day, hands-on practical training program conducted at The Oil & Gas Safety Training Centre in Jandakot. If required, the CSTP can be combined with BOSIET or TBOSIET, a requirement for all people working offshore. See CSTP flyer (PDF) for details. ERGT also offers a one-day course for supervisors about observing CSTP outcomes.
Train with the specialists in safety for the oil and gas industry

ERGT recognises that continued growth in the oil & gas industry requires an innovative approach to safety training, particularly for new entrants. That’s why ERGT is the first training organisation to develop courses for the CSTP, setting a new standard in safety training outcomes.
